　　故事梗概：
在加拿大一个偏远的小岛上有一个叫做布鲁纳的小村庄，村庄虽小，但勾心斗角的事却时有发生。村庄里的大富商特尔诡计多端，在三年前骗了村民拉裴的钱后，更昧着良心雇人置他于死地。没想到的是，拉裴大难不死，还从森林深处带回了很多珍贵的兽皮，一下子成为了村庄最富有的人。
在小混混巴萨那里，拉裴得知三年前自己遇难的真相。一气之下，他去找特尔算账，并凭借自己的武力夺走了他所有的不义之财。在那里，拉裴无意中看到了特尔家年轻漂亮的女佣爱瓦，对她一见钟情，而这一切都被特尔太太看在眼里。爱瓦青春亮丽，唯一的缺憾就是不会说话。据说，十年前一群强盗闯进了村庄，把她妈妈钉死在墙上，爱瓦在桌子下面看到了一切，从此就不会说话了。十年来，爱瓦不但在特尔家任劳任怨，还要忍受她脾气暴躁的妻子和娇惯女儿的气。为了换回部分财产，特尔太太愿意用爱瓦和拉裴作笔交易，拉裴应允。
