　　作为首次登台，导演兼编剧的Luke Wilson扮演一位好心肠的前罪犯Wendell Baker，因为诈骗被投入了监狱，疏远了与他长期相处的女友Doreen以及狗狗间的关系。不过，年轻、永远乐观的Wendell充分利用他在狱中的时间，发誓要改变他的生活。出狱后，他在Shady Grove离退休旅店得到了一份工作，并与住在里面的Boyd，Skip和Nasher成了好友。Wendell的新朋友帮助他重新赢回女朋友，而他帮助他们与旅店邪恶的护士长Neil King和他得力助手McTeague作战。

　　想当年欧文·威尔逊只是个刚刚涉足影坛的小弟弟，而我们的成龙大哥也在好莱坞混得不见起色，整天只能跟些黑鬼佬合作打打杀杀，有一天，这俩小子终于遇到一起了，这就有了那部《上海正午》的神话。从此以后，欧文小弟和成龙大哥两个人在好莱坞都风升水起，迅速霸占到了自己的一席之地。去年，这对哥俩合作的《上海武士》虽然马马虎虎，但二人精彩滑稽的打斗、搞笑幽默的情节、默契诙谐的合作，还是好生热闹了一阵子。
　　
　　离开了成龙大哥想单乾的欧文，可吃尽了不少苦头，先是《祖兰德》（Zoolander）和《深入敌后》（Behind Enemy Lines）不冷不热，接着到《我是间谍》（I Spy）简直可以说是一败涂地。看来自封为麻烦专家，离开成龙之后，要搞出点像眼的麻烦还真得多多锻炼，那样的话，"麻烦"才能到家。
　　
　　幸好，在《夏威夷金钱游戏》这部片子里，并不需要特殊的打斗和超级演技，泡泡妞浪几下漫捉几次迷藏，欧文略显夸张造作的搞笑还能过得去。再搭上一位美女（萨拉·福斯特，21岁的超级模特），一个老戏骨（演技渗透到骨头里的摩根·弗里曼），以及几个二流或搞笑或木讷的演员，这样一部喜剧味道也搅和得差不多可以下饭了。
　　
　　2004年，对于欧文·威尔逊来说，是个丰收的大年成，共有5部影片上映。除了《夏威夷金钱游戏》影片外，还有根据警匪游戏改编的《极速双雄》（《Starsky & Hutch》、传记影片《温德尔·贝克的故事》（The Wendell Baker Story）、汇集了众多巨星的《水栖生命》（The Life Aquatic）以及与成龙大哥再度合作的《环游世界八十天》。
