　　故事开始于一间手术室，气氛很紧张。手术台上躺着一位年长的患者，他的胸腔已被打开，还泛着红光。医生试图从他的胸腔内摘除某个已变异的器官，样子很可怕。医生似乎有点紧张，在他移动手术刀的时候，脸上和额头上布满了汗珠。手术助手们不安地站在一旁，他们知道有什么事情不对劲，但就是说不上来。病人突然睁开眼睛，开始尖叫…… 故事的主人公Hannah（Claire Foy）是一名医学院的学生，母亲意外去世一年后，她来到这家医院实习。外科医生Nick（Stephen Campbell Moore）医术高明，但总给人一种神秘感，似乎隐瞒了一些秘密。在一次手术中，Nick不小心弄伤了自己的手。伤口很快红肿、发炎。而在Nick的胃里，一条看不见的「寄生虫」正在缓慢移动。与此同时，Hannah发现自己开始产生幻觉－－但那也可能不是幻觉。她看到母亲出现在镜子里，她还看到一个病人的胃部有奇怪东西在「移动」……直觉告诉Hannah，这家医院肯定有问题。
