　　畅销小说家孝夫和在最先进的医疗机关工作的美智子夫妻，因为妻子得了焦虑症，离开东京，搬到丈夫的故乡，信州的一个山村。在那里，他们遇到了丈夫的患了癌症的恩师，因为疾病而不能说话的小姑娘小百合，还有在阿弥陀堂生活的96岁高龄的老婆婆等人，通过和这些人温情的交流，夫妻俩又找到了活着的喜悦。
　　
　　该影片描写着日本奥信农的四季，奥信农的四季庄严而美丽，仿佛是世外桃源。这里的人们平静而无忧无虑生活着，让人怀念起现代人所失去的某种很重要的东西。抛弃虚伪，与自然共存，是多么让人向往的境界，该片单纯而梦幻般传递着这样浓厚的世界观。这是一部充满了异国风情的优秀作品。
