　　瑞士导演Alain Tanner的第一部故事片。1968年，导演曾目睹了5月的巴黎街头景象。他对那些年轻示威者不很感兴趣，但却被那些游行队伍中的年长者所打动。所以他拍摄了这部电影，讲述了一个从资产阶级舒适生活中退出的老头子的故事。影片带有鲜明的1960年代色彩。
　　故事的主角 Charles 是一个50岁的商人，他继承了家族产业，成为公司老板。在公司的百年大庆上，他似乎一点都高兴不起来，反而看上去一脸沮丧。原来此人与一般资本家不同，他对劳动阶层抱有同情心，此时他担心起工厂里的工人来。
　　因为工作需要，Charles经常接受电视采访。而就在一次采访结束后，他抛开自己的舒适生活和繁忙生意，离家出走了。
　　很快他就碰到了同道中人，一对无政府主义男女。他们是那种1960年代典型的生活在中产阶级家庭的叛逆青年。后来男青年还把他的汽车推下了悬崖，以示拒绝物质享受。Charles搬进了他们的陋室，整天读书思考，讨论世事。女儿看到父亲跟那对男女呆在一起，非常高兴他能跟自己同享自由思想的乐趣。
　　但他的儿子却很不认同他们。他雇人找到了父亲，并把父亲送进了精神病院。即便上了车，Charles也没忘记向儿子宣扬他的幸福观。
　　这部电影最大的意义就在于其鲜明的时代特色。当时对工业社会的批判已经不仅仅是哲学家的事，知识青年以实际行动投入其中。理想主义具备了前所未有的坚实基础，但主流传统的干预总是会让理想破灭。很难想象，Charles如果没有被儿子找到的话，事情会往怎样的方向发展。
