　　一位瑞士的鸟类学家波姆因心脏病而死亡。奇怪的是，他的尸体是一个鹳鸟的巢里被发现的。尽管如此，他聘用的一位学生，乔纳森，却决定要独自完成他们的研究：追随迁徙至非洲的鹳鸟，彻底调查清楚它们其中的一部分会在迁徙中消失的原因。他的旅途从保加利亚开始，接下来便抵达了以色列，最后则是目的地非洲中部。但是在旅途刚刚开始，乔纳森就陷入了关于他的过去的恐怖梦魇之中..他手部的烧伤疤痕让他不得不想起那场莫名的事故。在随着鹳鸟迁徙的路线以及那些下落不明的钻石中，乔纳森的命运之旅就此开始...
　　原著小说作者格朗热，1961年出生于巴黎，自幼喜好文学，在巴黎索邦大学获得文学硕士学位。毕业后，格朗热先在一家公司当业务员，之后在摄影报导杂志担任编辑，并随摄影师四处游历。曾去过北极、蒙古、非洲等地，获得了丰富的地理知识，也奠定了日后他小说里时空背景辽阔的基础。与此同时，他爱上了推理小说。格朗热在撰写一篇有关鹳鸟迁徙的报导时，产生了灵感，于是写成处女作《鹳鸟谜踪》，并于1994年出版。
