◎简　　介

　　昭和60年，日本进入高度老龄化社会，与之相伴各种症结和矛盾相继产生。厚生省为了解决孤寡老人无人照顾或照顾不周的问题，专门拜托某商业化计算机公司生产出代号为Z-001的护理床。它可以周到地照顾老人的衣食住行，及时检查身体健康，更有自动升级和改良的功能。年逾古稀的老人高泽喜十郎生活在一片狭窄、破旧的社区内，儿女们忙碌各自生活，将瘫痪在床的老人交给志愿者三桥晴子照顾。不久，老人被子女交给厚生省用来测试Z-001的功效。机器虽然精良，但除了晴子外没人真正关心高泽老人内心的孤独和凄凉。他一心想要回到年轻时和妻子去过的海边，与此同时，Z-001也在悄悄发生着变化……
