　　来自纽约的商业纠纷调解专家Michael Garrett（Adrian Pasdar）决定暂时离开紧张繁忙的工作，给自己放个大假，但他的老板却将他派到一座爱尔兰小镇去促成一宗不同寻常的交易－－一家冶炼厂想买下一块地进行施工，可当地人称这块地曾是「矮妖」的定居点，没有他们的同意不能卖地。虽然那只是个传说，但当地「过时」的法律却承认这种说法。Michael只好向「矮妖」研究专家、当地酒吧老板娘Sarah Cavanaugh（Amy Huberman）请教，并很快发现这次的任务越来越棘手。Sarah也承认这块地属于「矮妖」，因此拒绝签署Michael带来的建筑许可证。Michael想要说服Sarah，但……他竟然爱上了Sarah！现在麻烦来了－－在工作和爱情之间，他要选择哪一个？他是否能够既不让老板失望，又抱得美人归？或者这该死的「矮妖」传说会让他两手空空地扫兴而归？
