　　吉姆·派克（安东尼·拉帕格利亚 Anthony LaPaglia 配音）在街上碰到了一个向他要钱买咖啡的流浪汉（杰弗里·拉什 Geoffrey Rush 配音），他没给钱，没想到那流浪汉竟在他面前饮弹自尽。吉姆的小儿子，28岁的大卫·派克（塞缪尔·约翰逊 Samuel Johnson 配音）找不到工作，就连电话营销都嫌他“经验不足”。吉姆劝说大卫加入哥哥莱尼（本·门德尔森 Ben Mendelsohn  配音）的讨债公司，但大卫只对寻找生命的意义这类哲学问题感兴趣，勉为其难试工，却还是令父亲大失所望。除了派克一家，居住在同一幢悉尼公寓楼里的还有与未婚妻分手的吸毒者、鳏居的寂寞老人、破产的魔术师、新搬来的超级名模和热爱足球的小孩等。在这些形形色色人等的日常生活中，究竟什么才是生命的意义，如何才能找到幸福呢？
